You Just Got Charged with Exhibition of Speed. What Should You Do?

Have you ever owned a fast car? One that had power to spare and some horsepower under the hood? Maybe it was a muscle car or even fast European exotic? Well, if you have, then you know that it's easy to find yourself speeding without really thinking about it. Well, that isn't exactly considered an exhibition of speed, but you can get a speeding ticket for it.

“Exhibitions of speed” is a phrase that covers several types of illegal activity, all of which are considered highly dangerous. Here in  Phoenix , AZ  the laws about speed exhibitions probably differ from other regions of the country, but in general exhibition of speed laws characteristically criminalize drag races, street races, “peel outs,” “drifting,” skidding, sliding, and other types of similar activity.

So, let's say that you made a mistake. You are now charged with exhibition of speed and worried about what might happen. If your case is serious, you might want to consult an attorney. But until there, here is a brief list from  Midway Collision Center  outlining the different penalties that you may be subject to for exhibitions of speed, including:

AutoBody-Review You just got charged with exhibition of speed. What should you do?Fines: The amount of fines depends upon the state or municipality in which the crime was committed, but they generally range from $50 to $800, depending on the severity of the offense.

Probation: A court also has the option to sentence someone convicted of exhibition of speed to a probation term, usually one that lasts six months or longer

Jail Time: State laws also allow courts to put people in jail in more serious exhibition of speed cases. The probability of a jail sentence often depends upon the situation and is also related to the offending driver's history. Most sentences will range from 30 to 90 days, although some chronic drag racers have received as much as one year!

Suspended license: An exhibition of speed conviction results in the loss of driving privileges in some states. Drivers convicted of exhibition of speed will normally get their licenses suspended for six months for the first time. In other states, first time exhibition of speed offenders will not have their licenses suspended unless the driver's actions were unusually dangerous.

Hopefully, if you see this list before doing something foolish, you may never have to be concerned about any of the penalties for exhibitions of speed shown here. Driving is a privilege and not a right and something we should respect always.

We strive to bring you relative content from Midway Collision Center in Phoenix , AZ .
