More Vehicles Added To Massive Takata Airbag Recall

Adding to the largest recall in automotive history, more Nissan Versas have been included to the already huge list of affected vehicles. Before the most recent round of recalls, the number had already reached a staggering 37 million cars, trucks, and SUVs.

19 auto makers used the potentially faulty inflators provided by Takata between the years of 2002 and 2015. This defect has been linked to almost 2 dozen deaths worldwide. The most recent additions to the recall are many 2007-2009 Nissan Versa subcompacts. Notices have been sent to affected owners beginning earlier this month.

The faulty inflators in question have been known to explode unexpectedly under certain conditions.

They defective ones tend to degrade when exposed to high degrees of heat or humidity. While inflators are designed to explode under controlled conditions to facilitate the expansion of the airbag the faulty units could explode randomly and the results can be unpredictable. In certain cases it inflated that airbags while driving.

In others it started a fire in the internal mechanics of the unit. Our partners at CARSTAR Jacobus in Vancouver, WA urge any owner who has received a recall notice to make an appointment with their local dealership for replacement as soon as possible.

There is nothing more important than your safety and the safety of your passengers.
