Never Leave These Items in Your Car
Everyone knows that you should never leave your kids or pets in a vehicle, but what about other items that should never be left in a car, SUV or truck.
At Service King DeZavala in San Antonio, TX, we always enjoy offering these helpful types of blogs to our customers, associates and blog readers.
Medication and Sunscreen
Extreme temperatures can compromise the active ingredients in many types of medication and sunscreen products. Most medication is designed for storage at 68-77 degrees, and when it hits 86 degrees, so to be safe, ask your pharmacist or doctor.
Spray Paint and Aerosol Products
At temperatures in excess of 120 degrees, the pressure inside any spray paint can reach a point that the metal will actually split. The paint will coat everything inside your vehicle and the force is strong enough to turn the can into a dangerous projectile that can break windows and potentially cause serious injury.
Eye Glasses/Sunglasses
Any type of extreme heat can warp metal and plastic frames, while the lens shape can concentrate sunlight, which might burn holes in your interior.
Wine
Heat won’t just change the taste of any fine wine, but it could also get “corked” when heat causes the cork to expand and ruin the vino.
Perishable and Frozen Food
Obviously, you don’t ever want to drive around with frozen foods in your vehicle, but refrigerated foods are also risky. The USDA always suggests limiting perishable foods to 45 minutes of exposure at temperatures over 90 degrees. Conversely, if the weather gets cold, freezing temperatures can break open eggs and split canned goods, making them unsafe for human consumption.
Plants and Trees
Most people start planning gardens and/or executing indoor planting early in the springtime, but picking them up at the incorrect time could harm or even kill them. Even at temperatures in the mid-50s, plants can die in less than one-hour and even more quickly when they become in contact with cold windows that can sap heat, shriveling leaves.
Electronics and Cameras
Smartphones, cameras and laptops don’t just tempt thieves, but they also aren’t designed for excessive temperatures. For most devices that are not designed for in-car use, manufacturers strongly suggest keeping them between 32-100 degrees while on and 0-113 degrees when turned off.
