Casino Refuses To Pay Out

In May of 2016, Merida Manipoun had what should have been one of the best days of her life. Instead, she's found herself in a running legal battle to pry the Aston Martin Vantage GT out of the hands of a casino. The casino disagrees with her claim, and charges have been filed. To make matters worse, Merida may end up with the tax responsibility for the car whether or not she ever gets the keys.

Two different narratives have been presented. Mr. Manipoun recounted the events of the day. She poured money into slot machines, understanding that every push of the button would increase her odds. Her name was called and she was brought up to the front of the casino where she took pictures and was paraded around for other patrons. She then states that she was taken into a back room where casino representatives tried to force her into giving up her claim to the car in favor of a small amount of cash. They even told her that there was no way she could afford the taxes and fees. She declined strongly. She then went to dealership to pick up the car, where she was told by staff that the casino never sent the paperwork sowing ownership. What the casino did file was an I-9 for the taxes and fees, which the IRS has been expecting since 2016.

Representation for the Viejas Casino in Alpine, CA state that Ms. Manipoun disregarded the rules of the competition. She and a partner used one player's club card, which violated the rules. They also claim that they retracted the I-9 form, with the IRS to blame for not processing the paperwork properly. 

Hopefully the situation will come to an end quickly, as it has dragged out too far for either party. There is far too much bad blood already between them.
