A proposed U.S. Senate bill aims to provide consumers with $3,500 to purchase American made cars from manufacturers such as Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda, and a handful of others. The bill was proposed by Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown ans is intended to protect jobs in the U.S.
The bill proposes a one-time $3,500 subsidy per person for a vehicle purchase or five year lease. For a vehicle to qualify, at least 45% of its parts must be manufactured in either the U.S. or Canada and assembled in the U.S.
Senator Brown recently commented on Chevy's decision to move the manufacturing of their Blazer line to Mexico.
“On the same day GM is laying off workers in Youngstown, the company is bypassing American workers and sending more jobs to Mexico. GM should reverse this irresponsible decision, and use its tax windfall to invest in American workers.”
