How to Repair Your Seat Belts Fast and Easy

While car seat belts are vitally essential tools that are meant to enhance your safety when traveling, they boast periodical problems which might bring frustrations and make you feel uncomfortable.

Most of the common issues that we've encountered here at Service King Southwest Frwy in Houston, TX include jamming, failure to latch and twisted seatbelts among others. When you experience a problem with your seat belt, there is a high probability that you can troubleshoot and fix it yourself. However, if it is a serious problem, you will definitely need the help of a professional. Here are few tips to help you fix your car seat belts:

1.    Extend the belt to its full length. This will help you determine whether something is stuck on the belt surface rather than the buckle or the belt mechanism. If you find that there nothing is wrong, you can move to the next step.

2.    Check out the male and female parts of the seat belt if it is on the rear seats, and the plastic covers if it is on the front seats. Inspect to see if the male part of the belt is deformed, bent or has something sticky. If you find any problem, you can solve it right on the spot.  After that, you can proceed to the female part which is the part where the male buckle enters. Insert a sharp knife or any flat tool inside the female part of the belt or beneath the plastic covers, and feel if there is any obstruction and clear the debris or foreign material.

3.    Take off the buckle or open up the seat belt mechanism. While some seatbelt buckles require unscrewing, others demand that you remove the seat.

4.    Open up the seat belt mechanism or disassemble the socket between the edges of the fastener. This will help you determine whether any foreign materials are jamming the seat belt or whether the springs inside the buckle are defective.

5.    Once you ensure that everything is ok. Allow the seat belt to roll back into its place if it is on the front seats, and if it is the back seats, you can check to see if the buckle is locking up the seat belt properly. These are the few steps you need to follow to troubleshoot seat belt problems. If they persist, you can read the next action.

6.    Consider replacement if all other things fail. If your belt isn’t working up to this step, it means that the damage is permanent. You can also consult a professional to see if they can repair buckle. If not, you need to replace the seat belt.

We hope this information will help you fix your gumming seat belt and help you stay safe on the road.
