The Best Spark Plugs Of 2018

The Best Spark Plugs Of 2018

Spark plugs are small components that are often overlooked, but there's a simple formula with the internal combustion engine. No spark, no fire. No fire, no power. A poorly performing or burnt out spark plug means a severe loss in power at best and a stalling engine at worst. Like most parts, you really do get what you pay for as well. We know this at Service King Sheldon here in Colorado Springs of CO. We recommend quality for our customers because we see first hand the results of going with the least expensive parts and the damage they can cause. That being said, yes. Some of the best spark plugs on the market are more expensive than their lower-performing cousins, but in the end it's ultimately worth the investment.

The best on the market right now are NGK 6619 Iridiums. They're not terribly priced at $39.99 for 6, but it's certainly more expensive than the specials at the auto parts store of 99 cents each. They're all quality though. Iridium is the best material for spark plugs on the market and the super fine electrode wire gives a longer life span by about 25%. They're reliable and efficient to a high degree.

The Denso PK20TT Platinums are a great second choice. The price recently dropped as well, making them pretty affordable. For 6 you'll only drop about $18.00. The electrode is a little thicker than most premium plugs, but under normal driving conditions you'll never notice. They're also long lived, but not quite as much so as the NGK 6619s.

Another NGK rounds out the suggestions. The 7090 BKR5EGP G-Power has only a single platinum construction but makes up for it with a thin platinum electrode. This means faster starts and high efficiency. For performance vehicles, this is my pick for about the same price as the Denso plugs.

Next time you take your vehicle into the shop for maintenance and it's time to replace the spark plugs, consider going with something a bit more high end. You may just see some shocking results!
