The Amazing Versatility of Cast-Vinyl Wrapping

The Amazing Versatility of Cast-Vinyl Wrapping

You've probably seen some amazing examples of just what can be done with cast-vinyl wrapping on a variety of vehicles. Almost every business employs this relatively inexpensive and eye-catching form of advertising, but as its popularity has grown and the cost has come down DIY'ers and hobbyists have taken up the tools necessary to wrap their rides. Ink wraps are professionally installed graphics that adhere to the clear coat of your vehicle to appear as though they are painted on the body. And they can look pretty amazing, but only if they're done right.

The first step is to always check with your local auto body expert to make sure you're clear coat is up to the challenge, otherwise you may be in for a nasty surprise when it's time to remove your wrap. They can give you an idea of whether or not you'll need a refresh to your clear coat. Next you'll need to find a reputable cast-vinyl wrapping shop with quality, heavy-duty equipment. Finally you may want to consider a few common questions before having the wrap installed.

Can Ink Wraps Damage My Paint?
Yes,but only if the paint job is already cracked or peeling. The same applies to the layer of clear coat as well, which is why it's vitally important to check with a trusted auto body shop such as Westway Ford Collision located in the city of Irving, TX before you go to a wrap shop for a quote. Occasionally you may hear of an unlucky person whose paint job came off with their wrap. There are only three logical reasons why this could occur. Either the wrap was improperly installed, the paint job/clear coat was already severely damaged, or the wrap was improperly removed. It's just as important to have a professional remove the wrap as install it.

How Much Will It Cost And How Long Will My Wrap Last?

A quality wrap job can cost anywhere between $800 and $2500, depending on the dimensions of the vehicle and the material it's being adhered to. It's much less expensive to adhere to clear coat than chrome. A properly installed wrap should last between 5 and 10 years reliably. It's also highly dependent on the material used. 3M and Avery vinyl are typically more expensive, but they hold up about twice as long as less expensive ones.

Can I Take a Wrapped Car to a Car Wash?
It's best to avoid the car wash. Most car washes are too abrasive to vinyl surfaces, leading to the material breaking down faster. There are also specific waxes that work best on vinyl, so it's best to consult your installer.

With a little research and imagination, nearly any vehicle can be transformed by vinyl wrapping. Whether you're promoting your business or just want to showcase your artistic skills, it may be time to get out there and show off what you've got!
