Lucid Motors is a New Player in Electric Cars

Deciding which car to purchase can be a big decision and we know that at Collision Works - Tulsa, but it’s also an exciting time to be shopping around for a new one. The automobile industry has evolved rapidly over the last few years, especially with the introduction of hybrid and electric vehicles, and that's why we see so many new electric cars in Tulsa, OK.

There are many benefits owning an electric vehicle including fuel savings, tax credits offered through the government and lower maintenance costs. Oil changes aren’t required with an electric vehicle as well as other engine work that can get costly.

Electric vehicles such as Tesla’s Model 3 and the Nissan Leaf are expected to be released over the next few years.

Now there’s a new player in the world of electric vehicles—Lucid Motors.

In December 2016, the company unveiled plans to build an electric sedan called the Lucid Air. With a range of 240 miles, the rear-wheel-drive base model is expected to have 400 horsepower at a price tag of $52,000 after federal tax credits. The fully-loaded all-wheel-drive vehicle, estimated to cost $100,000, will have a range of 315 or 400 miles and 1,000 horsepower. Both will include the hardware needed to enable autonomous driving.

Depending on the model, some of the special features of the Lucid Air will include:

  • AutoBody-Review lucid motors is a new player in electric carsTwo trunks, one in the front and one in the rear. (The company compares the total space to the volume of a four-person hot tub!)

  • Interactive touchscreen capabilities
  • Five-seat configuration with a rear bench seat that reclines up to 55 degrees
  • 10 advanced airbags
  • Aluminum or glass-canopy roof
  • 19- or 21-inch wheels
  • 10- or 29-speaker audio system
  • Over-the-air software updates

Founded in 2007, the independent company is based in Menlo Park, California and was formerly called Atieva. In its early years, Lucid focused its efforts on developing EV battery technology for other car manufacturers. In 2014, the company began building a prototype vehicle. Lucid now employs more than 300 workers, many of whom have worked at other car companies.

Lucid is currently building a manufacturing plant in Casa Grande, Arizona. Production of the Lucid Air is expected to begin the first half of 2019 and 10,000 cars are planned to be built the first year. By 2022, Lucid hopes to employ 2,000 people and produce 60,000 vehicles.
