Mazda Brings Back Their Rotary Engine

Mazda Brings Back Their Rotary Engine

In accordance with its plans to switch their entire lineup to some form of electric by 2030, Mazda has revived the rotary engine. As part of this push, Mazda's new range extender will drive like a normal battery-powered electric vehicle but have a compact rotary engine to recharge the battery, giving the car a much longer range than either a standard internal combustion or electric vehicle.

"We've seen drastic changes in automotive-related environmental policies all over the world," CEO Akira Marumoto said at a recent news conference. "We at Mazda are keeping an eye on what is going on in the industry as we move forward with our strategy."

Mazda has chosen its rotary engine instead of a scaled-down standard engine because of a few factors. It's quite small, but powerful for its size.

It's also quiet and efficient. Lastly, it has been modified to burn liquefied petroleum gas, so it can also be extremely eco-friendly.

Between its upcoming electric and hybrid vehicles, Mazda is also looking forward to the introduction of its Skyactiv-X engine. Through an innovative use of compression ignition, it will provide more power and better fuel economy.

As with our partners at Hendrick Collision Center Of Kansas City here in Kansas City, MO, we'll be watching this closely. Mazda's innovations never fail to amaze, and we can't wait to see what coming down the pipe next!
