Waymo Gives Arizona Shoppers A Lift
Alphabet subsidiary Waymo has recently teamed up with several retail and service giants to provide transportation around the Phoenix area for shopping and errands. Alphabet, the parent company for Google has unveiled plans to assist shoppers along with associates Avis, Element Hotel, AutoNation and real estate company DDR.
Walmart Vice President Tom Ward wrote in a personal blog post "Our personal shoppers get to work meticulously picking customers' orders based on their pickup times. Waymo does the rest! They transport customers to and from pickup, and all the while, those customers can text, nap, work... you name it!"
Waymo has not stated what fee if any is associated with their service. Recent polls show that most people are optimistically interested in self-driving technology, though some are wary after the fatal accident involving Uber's autonomous vehicle program.
An early rider program was established by Waymo for residents in 2017 with roughly 400 riders participating in the program currently. Waymo is preparing to launch their commercial service later this year.
