Millennials in Europe Say Yes to Greener Cars

Some people think that millennials are only interested in texting, taking selfies, photo-bombing their friends and traveling to faraway places. But, what many folks don't know is that three-quarters of this demographic (ages 18-34) in Europe claim they believe that owning an eco-friendly car is the ideal way for them to live a more environmentally-responsible way and that's why they are buying more of them every year.

AutoBody Review millennials in Europe say yes to greener carsA recent study from Nissan European found that 76 percent of 2,500 millennials (aged 18-34) polled said that owning a green car was the single biggest thing that they could do to help the environment. At  Don's Auto Body , we found the results of this study intriguing, so we decided to share it with you here on our blog.

This survey of millennials across Britain, France, Italy, Germany and Spain found that their primary concerns aren’t things such as recycling (24 percent) or garbage landfills (14 percent), but more serious global issues like climate change (53 percent) and air pollution (42 percent), that are more important to this huge demographic.

Since millennials are a significant part of any population, both in Europe and North America especially, this European study shows that this group of young people are willing to make radical lifestyle changes to save planet they live on. To assist millennials in helping them to buy and drive eco-friendly cars, companies such as Nissan European, BMW, VW, Audi and Volvo have established programs to make their green cars more affordable for first-time buyers.

One reason why these companies are stepping up their efforts to accommodate the millennial demographic, is because this group can be influential in deciding the future of automotive transportation and the world fleet's overall sustainability. Researchers have continually found that millennials are early adopters of emerging technology, much more environmentally conscious than previous generations and generally more willing to make sacrifices and lifestyle changes in line with their personal values and beliefs.

Perhaps surprisingly, the majority of the European millennials that were surveyed owned a vehicle, either green or not (77 percent). Although they might not be driving electric vehicles right now, they are looking out for future driving technology and learning about new innovation all the time. The study also revealed that two out of three European millennials are planning to purchase a hybrid car in the next decade and over 50 per cent said that they would be interested in buying an electric car within that same period of time.

The millennials in Europe are probably very much like the young people here in  San Francisco ,  CA , so these numbers are likely the same here. If the message of this blog is that young people want a greener planet and are willing to achieve it by driving greener cars; why--yes, that indeed is positive news and a bright light for the future of the world.
