Top 5 Cars that Get 40+ mpg

Some car owners value luxury and style above everything else, while others value capacity. Power is a big deal for a lot of younger drivers and of course, we're all concerned about fuel efficiency and saving money on the sticker price.

At John's Collision Center, we know that the prices of gas will go up and down in Raleigh, NC, so saving as much as we can on fuel is always a big deal. So, here is our list of the top 5 cars that get 40-plus miles per gallon:

1.) The 2017 Ford Fiesta SE: 43 mpg highway

If you have the SE trim level of the 2016 Fiesta, it is definitely eligible for the EcoBoost Fuel Economy package. This package utilizes a turbocharged 3-cylinder, 1.0-liter engine with a five-speed manual transmission, custom wheels and tires, and some sleek improvements to hit better fuel economy numbers than your average Fiesta. City mileage with this vehicle comes in at 31 mpg, and the collective mileage rating is 36 mpg.

2.) The 2017 Scion iA: 42 mpg highway

This small sedan loaded with bells and whistles not only performs at a high level out on the highway, but also has some real power under the hood. The Scion iA is essentially Toyota's version of the Mazda 2, which isn't being currently marketed in the U.S. With a 1.5-liter engine and 6-speed automatic, the Scion iA gets a total of 33 mpg in city driving and 37 mpg on average.

3.) The 2016 Honda Civic: 42 mpg highway

A perpetual favorite, this highly-rated Honda Civic sedan comes in many models, including the mega-efficient, EX-T, EX-L and Touring trim levels. All of them get 42 mpg highway, with city mileage at 31 mpg, with a total combined fuel efficiency rating of 35 mpg.

4.) The 2016 BMW 328d: 42 mpg highway

The first diesels on this list, the incredible 2016 BMW 328d sedan features an all-wheel-drive variant, the 328d xDrive and the all-wheel-drive 328d xDrive Sports Wagon, which are among the best-equipped and most exciting vehicles that hit 40 mpg or even better while out on the highway.

5.) The 2016 Ford Focus: 42 mpg highway

There are two different versions of the 2016 Ford Focus that get 40 mpg or better. Leading the way is the Focus SE EcoBoost with a turbocharged 3-cylinder, 1.0-liter engine and a 6-speed manual tranny. It also achieves 30 mpg city and 35 mpg altogether. The identical Focus model with a 6-speed automatic transmission sees highway mileage drop down to 40 mpg, with a 28 mpg city rating and a combined rating of 32 mpg.
