The fault in the lighting unit relates to situations in which a high amount of humidity has built up inside the vehicle. During times of extremely high humidity or when the sunroof is left open in the rain, owners may notice a burning smell coming from the sunroof. It may be the cause of one fire reported by an owner in California warier this year. Our partners at Woodhouse Mazda Collision Center of Omaha, NE highly recommend that owners address this issue as soon as a recall notice is received. A recall that involves the possibility of a car fire is not something that you can let go until it's convenient to take it in.
For units still at the dealership, VW has instructed technicians to disconnect the ambient lighting units and sealing it with a piece of aluminum tape.
A more permanent fix is in the works, as as soon as it is VW will begin the process of issuing the recall notices to customers.
