iPhone Apps To Prevent Distracted Driving
Distracted driving due to smart phone usage is at an all-time high. It's an epidemic that affects people of all ages across the world. Enacting stricter texting-while-driving laws hasn't slowed the rate of accidents caused by distracted driving. There are, however a few apps available for iPhones that will help while driving, whether it be for your teenage driver or your easily-distracted self.
The first I looked at is LifeSaver. It simply locks the iPhone while inside a vehicle when it is in motion. It simply kicks in when driving speed is reached according to the internal sensors. It is available for corporations as well as private users.
SafeDrive is an interesting app that gives points for not texting and driving. It locks texting capabilities once 6 mph is reached and begins awarding points that can be redeemed in the form of discounts at participating businesses. When the app is disabled either by the user or at the end of the trip, the points stop accumulating.
The last I tried iso DriveMode. DriveMode is AT&T's safe driving software that gives the user the versatility of voice commands, allowing the driver to take their and and eyes off of the device. It also silences incoming texts and calls, minimizing distractions.
The road today is a dangerous place to be. The news is constantly running stories about collisions due to distracted driving. Our partners at Plaza Omaha Body Shop here in Omaha, NE see the unfortunate results every day. Changing the behaviors behind distracted driving may be difficult, but in time developers and manufacturers may find a way to pair with vehicles in a safer way. Only then can we go back to worrying about the laundry list of other dangers weface in our daily commutes.
