Creepy And Kooky - The Addams Family Car

As the days grow shorter and the weather cooler, I inevitably think back to the anticipation of Halloween from my childhood. While it was a little before my time, Halloween always evoked memories of the black and white 1964 to 1968 Addams Family TV show, and later the 1993 movie.

The show had just the right mix of spooky and cool to make me fall in love with it instantly. They were strange yet lovable, and the feel of the show really struck a chord with me. I wanted their house. I wanted their furniture. More than anything, though, I wanted their car.  As fans of the show, we at Davidson's Collision Center, Inc. in Columbus, OH couldn't help but take a deeper look at this gem. 

The car in the show was a 1933 Packard V-12, and it was majestic. The pinnacle of luxury for it time, it was also very smooth running. Packard was also the first manufacturer to incorporate the V-12, which was only six years later adopted by Ferrari. There were a variety of body styles for the 35,000 manufactured but all of them were a thing of beauty.

The model used for the 1993 Movie was actually a 1932 Packard Twin 6, which looked almost identical except for the headlights, grill, and fender.

The only stylisistic change made from the base model for the show was the vulture hood ornament, which was just the perfect touch. 

It was the perfect car for the show both in tone and aesthetics. This particular model of Packard was a remnant of a dark time in US history, as it rode out the Great Depression with a style and elegance that inspired a kind of hope for the future. It was a little odd itself, and certainly fast.

It was a little whimsical and a little impractical, but for the Addams Family I couldn't think of any other car.
