Tesla To Include Dashcam Features In Software Rollout
Recently Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO announced that future Tesla models will include a battery of cameras that could be used to provide footage in cases of collision. The existing cameras that are the backbone of their autopilot systems could be dual-purposed to give access to video in instances where crashes occur. Many owners have wondered why this has not been incorporated up to this point, but soon the wait may be over.
While dashcams are a feature that many drivers have become increasingly interested in over recent years, the main complaint with most of them is that they take up too much real estate in the interior of a vehicle. Obviously this complaint would be negated by the all-exterior camera systems Tesla uses.
The tweaks necessary to allow footage to be taken in the event of a collision would be extremely minor for Tesla.
As a matter of fact, the current systems do record footage under those conditions, although what's taken is only useful for diagnostic purposes.
No new hardware would even be required. It is expected to be included with Tesla's version 9 software update and is currently undergoing final testing.
As collision experts, out partners at Imperio Auto Repair in Miami, FL look forward to its implementation as it could provide useful information for restoration purposes.
