ABRA and NABC Donate Vehicle to Single Father

ABRA and NABC Donate Vehicle to Single Father

ABRA Auto Body & Glass is pleased to announce the gifting of a refurbished 2012 Mazda 3 to a recipient from Family Promise in Utah, through a partnership with the National Auto Body Council’s (NABC) Recycled Rides program, a nationally-acclaimed program in which the organization gives completely refurbished vehicles to deserving families and individuals nationwide annually.

Shawn (last name withheld) and his two-year-old daughter were presented with a Mazda 3 loaded with food, household items, numerous gift cards, Utah Jazz tickets and a new car seat. The gifting ceremony took place on January 6 at the ABRA Riverton repair center in Riverton, UT. The vehicle was generously donated by Allstate Insurance and repaired by ABRA Auto Body & Glass while the NBA’s Utah Jazz, Utah Highway Safety, Pep Boys, Dent Pro, LKQ, Sherwin Williams, Ogden Auto Towing & Recovery, Westland Ford, Nate Wade Subaru, Bountiful Mazda and Mobile Diagnostics donated products and services to make the day an amazing success.

Now Shawn will be able to take his ailing daughter to chemotherapy appointments. He will also be able to go to job interviews and transport himself to and from work when he lands a job, thereby allowing himself to become more independent and self-sufficient, the ultimate goal that Family Promise seeks to achieve with all its clients, according to  Laurie Robinson, the organization’s shelter & housing manager.

"This event was a great example of what a community can do when everyone works together on a common mission to change someone’s life," she explained. “This will transform Shawn’s life for the better and we are very grateful that we were able to participate in this giveaway."

“We are truly honored and excited to have the opportunity to work with our partners to give a helping hand to a family in need,” said Greg Peeters, ABRA Utah’s vice president. “Lack of reliable transportation is a challenge for many families, and we are happy to help ease that burden.”

The National Auto Body Council’s Recycled Rides program is a collaborative effort by auto body shops, insurers, parts suppliers and others in the collision industry to repair and donate vehicles to deserving families and community service organizations throughout the United States. For the past 20 years, the National Auto Body Council and its members have been instrumental in helping to shape a positive image for today’s collision industry professionals. NABC members are recognized and acknowledged as responsible businesses that give back to the communities they serve.

Family Promise helps homeless and low-income families to find independence by providing educational outreach, smart programming, effective policies, food, shelter and support services. They also provide advice and advocacy for at-risk families to prevent their becoming homeless and educate people about poverty and the means to combat it.

NABC Executive Director Chuck Sulkala is proud of the NABC’s Recycled Rides program and the success it’s achieved over the years. “We gave away almost 300 vehicles to people in need last year and we’re off to a good start in 2015,” he said. “With all of these great insurance companies, collision repairers, paint suppliers, parts vendors and other companies onboard, this is a joint effort every year and it’s amazing to see so many people who go out of their way to make this happen.”
