Ford Unveils New Carbon Supercar

Ford has been liberal in their use of carbon fiber in previous models for their high-end sports models, but they've really raised the bar with their new 2019 Carbon Series GT. They've shaved roughly 40 pounds from previous models by incorporating carbon fiber in the wheels, sills, air register pods, and center console. They also used lighter weight titanium in lug nuts, bolts, and the exhaust. 

Unlike previous models the 2019 will include a top shelf infotainment system and air conditioning. These had been previously omitted in other models to reduce overall weight. As more parts are upgraded using strong, lightweight materials we'll likely see more amenities common in luxury vehicles making their way into future models. 

Mechanically it's nearly identical to the current GT, with a 3.5-liter twin turbocharged V6 engine producing 647 horsepower and a seven speed transmission. The casual driver may not notice many differences, but the reduction of weight set a precedent that we can start expecting more from high-tech materials in our future vehicles. You can pick one of these up for the bargain price of $450,000. You'd better hurry though, as preorders are selling fast.
