Recent Survey Shows That Ford Owners Plan To Switch Brands

Recent Survey Shows That Ford Owners Plan To Switch Brands

In a review recently published by Cox Automotive, Ford sedan owners are planning on a mass exodus from the Ford brand in favor of the offerings of other manufacturers. This data was compiled just a few months after Ford released the information that they'll be dropping most of their sedan-class lines in favor of heavy crossover promotion due to heavy tariffs levied against foreign-made vehicles. It was also released weeks before Ford's most recent announcement that they were also dropping the Focus line as well. Our partners at AutoRestore Mobile Collision in Columbus, OH will be watching developments closely, as it will surely affect their part of the auto industry as well.

Let's just say that the numbers should be troubling for Ford. More than half of current Ford owners say that they plan to go with sedans offered by one of the other major manufacturers when it comes time to make their next purchase. Roughly ten percent say that they would consider one of Ford's crossover options, though, and almost three percent say that they may just go for a Mustang. That's at least a little encouraging, but the real hit lies in that fifty percent statistic.

Keeping in mind that at the time of the survey the Focus was still an option, it's open to conjecture how this would have affected the results if at all. Certainly it couldn't have improved the numbers, but it's anyone's guess what more damage would have been done, especially with a weighty percentage of those polled owing Focuses currently.

Over the last several months Ford has released several statements about the profitability of sedans industry-wide, essentially saying that in the US it's improbable for a manufacturer to turn a profit in that market. In the year ahead we may see the results of this prediction, but with Ford out of the running other manufacturers that manufacture and operate in the US may have the extra room they need in this environment to grow and flourish.
