I believe better quality control over employees is necessary to make sure things are right the first time and not have to be sent back while customer waiting as better communications between repair shop and customer as to when vehicle will finally be available for pickup. Additionally I believe the customer should be afforded the opportunity to have what ever remaining parts that they would like from the discarded vehicle.
